Former President and aspiring flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, has mentioned that, what the party needs going into the 2024 general election is an experienced person and not a newbie.
He made this statement when he took his campaign tour to Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) Constituency in the Central Region on March 29, 2023.
He touted himself as someone who has tasted the leadership and presidency of the country before and therefor has the requisite experience needed to lead the party.
He said his experience as a former President puts him ahead of the rest and even the candidate to be chosen by the New Patriotic Party.
Placed on the number one spot on the ballot sheet, the former president said it signifies victory for him and the NDC at large and appealed to delegates in the constituency to give him a thunderous victory come May 13, during the primaries.
He pledged to support fishermen in the constituency when given the nod. He also promised to make premix fuel affordable to fishermen and give them subsidized outboard motors to facilitate their works.
He further added that, the borrowing heights of the ruling government cannot be compared to his regime because, he can diligently account for the GHS55 billion his government borrowed as compared to the over GHS 500 billion borrowed by the Akufo-Addo led government.
Mr. Mahama stressed on his ‘Do or Die’ comment about the 2024 general elections indicating that party members should be alert and prevent any form of intimidation against them when the time comes.
This he said will ensure fairness in the election of leaders for the country.
