Minority Leader in Parliament, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has said the National Democratic Congress will explore other available options to compel the Electoral Commission (EC) to allow a forensic audit of the voters’ register.

Speaking in an interview with TV3 at the ongoing demonstration by the party against the EC, Dr. Ato Forson said although Parliament is currently on recess, the party will ensure the House reconvenes to deliberate on the matter if it has to in order for the forensic audit to be done.

“If we have to recall Parliament then we will,” he told Eric Mawuena Egbeta on September 17.

The party is currently picketing simultaneously in all the 16 Regions to drum home their concerns about alleged discrepancies on the voters’ register.

Although the NDC has requested for an independent audit, the EC denied the party’s request prompting a nationwide protest from the party.

However, the Peace Council has urged the NDC to allow the EC to clean-up the voters’ register before demanding for a forensic audit.

Rev. Dr Ernest Adu Gyamfi explained that it would be of the best interest if the NDC waits for the EC to correct the errors identified in the register and publish the final voters’ register before making any demands.

“If errors have been identified, we believe that the best forum is to present those errors, get them corrected and then we can go back to look at what the correction is. Where are we? Have we corrected all the issues and the challenges we have? If it is not? Then we look at the way forward.

“But if we have not done the correction and we are calling for an audit, then I’m wondering what else we may identify because we need to find those errors now, clean-up and we can move forward,” he said on Monday, September 16.
