Black Galaxies are preparing for Saturday’s quarter-final clash with Niger in the 2022 African Nations Championship.
Ghana have reached the championship final twice but have yet to win it, so winning it for the first time this year is their top priority.
Annor Walker’s men got off to a shaky start, losing to Madagascar, but bounced back with a 3-1 win over Sudan, despite losing star man Daniel Afriyie Barnieh to a red card. As a result, the striker will miss the match against Niger.
If the Black Galaxies want to win the coveted trophy, which teams will they have to face along the way?
QUARTER-FINAL
Ghana will meet Niger for the second time, having met in the group stage in 2011. Niger defeated Ghana by a solitary goal to eliminate Ghana from the tournament.
While Ghana will cherish the opportunity for vengeance, Niger will be motivated by their triumph against Cameroon in their last group encounter.
SEMI-FINAL
If Ghana gets rid of the Nigerians, they will come up against either host Algeria or Ivory Coast. Algeria have won all their matches so far and will play Ivory Coast who finished second in Group B on Friday.
- Algeria v Ivory Coast – Niger v Ghana
- Senegal v Mauritania – Madagascar vs Mozambique
FINAL
Black Galaxies will meet one of these teams in the final; either a rematch against Madagascar or Mozambique, who play each other in the quarter-finals. Interestingly, Ghana also played Mozambique in a pre-tournament friendly, which was cut short due to a contentious penalty call.
Senegal and Mauritania will also be on the other wing as potential finalists to play Ghana on February 4.
