A grieving woman has accused her late sister’s husband of sexual abuse that allegedly led to her death just days after childbirth.

According to the account shared online, the deceased woman underwent a caesarean section and was still in severe pain four days later when her husband allegedly forced her to have sex against medical advice.

The sister claimed the woman pleaded for time to recover but was threatened with abandonment if she refused.

“She told him she was still in pain and needed at least two weeks, but he refused,” she said.

The deceased reportedly married in 2021 and had five children, three boys and two girls, within four years. Family members said she never disclosed the abuse, choosing instead to endure in silence to “save her marriage.”

On the night of the incident, the husband allegedly had sex with her multiple times despite her condition.

Hours later, she reportedly began bleeding heavily and was rushed to the hospital. It was at that point that family members were contacted.

“When I got there, she was weak, crying, and struggling to speak,” the elder sister recounted.

Before her death, the woman allegedly told her sister she regretted ignoring warnings not to marry her husband. “She said, ‘My husband has sent me to my early grave,’” the account stated.

The story has sparked widespread outrage online, with many Nigerians calling attention to marital sexual violence, postpartum care, and the pressure on women to endure abuse for the sake of marriage.

Advocacy groups are urging women to prioritise their health and safety and to speak out against abuse, regardless of marital status.

The incident has renewed calls for stronger enforcement of laws protecting women from domestic and sexual violence.
