The Women’s Committee of the Ghana Mine Workers’ Union branch at Golden Star Wassa has held this year’s Empowered Miners’ Summit, rallying women in mining to push for stronger inclusion, professional growth and practical action.

Held on the theme ‘Driving Productivity Through Inclusion and Bold Advocacy’, the summit brought together women across the company and its contractor firms drawn from different departments and experience levels to engage in open discussions on their roles in mining, personal development, workplace inclusion and career progression.

A key highlight of the summit was a panel discussion session where experienced professionals shared personal journeys, lessons and guidance on navigating the industry.

It also created space for engagement on challenges confronting women in mining, while exploring solutions to deepen their impact and advancement within the sector.

Speaking at the event, Madam Vida Brewu of the Ghana Mine Workers’ Union provided insights into legal protections, workplace policies and advocacy tools available to support women.

She urged participants to make use of existing frameworks in addressing workplace concerns and strengthening their voice within the industry.

Rebecca Appiah-Community Department, Golden Star Wassa, said investing in women directly improves organisational performance.

“When women are supported to grow and lead, it strengthens not only individuals but the entire workforce and productivity outcomes,” she said.

She added that creating an enabling environment for women to thrive is critical to building a resilient and forward-looking mining sector.

Madam Boatemaa Hammond at the company’s Corporate Affairs Department encouraged participants to continue building their confidence, supporting one another and making the most of opportunities for growth.

“It is always encouraging to see women come together to share, learn and support each other. Conversations like these are important for personal growth, stronger teams and a more inclusive workplace,” she added.

The resolution at the summit’s end focused on supporting continuous learning, encouraging participation and promoting greater inclusion for women across all levels of the company.
