The Chairperson of the African Women Leader Network (AWLN), Dr. Charity Binka, has called on women to step up as Peace Ambassadors to prevent the suffering of women and children during conflicts.

Speaking at a Townhall meeting held on November 4, 2024, at the Local Government Auditorium in Accra, Dr. Binka emphasized the critical role of women in promoting peace and stability.

The AWLN, Pan-African movement of women striving for leadership roles, aims to empower women from diverse backgrounds to engage actively in leadership processes.

Dr Binka stressed the importance of changing the narrative in Africa to promote women in leadership positions, asserting that women must be granted more opportunities to lead effectively.

The African Women Leader Network (AWLN) has outlined its core focus on six action pillars: governance and political participation, peace and security, financial inclusion, young women leadership, empowering rural women, and social mobilization. This strategic framework aims to drive impactful change and empower women across various sectors.

Moreover, she highlighted the necessity for a global shift towards recognizing the vital contribution of women in implementing effective and sustainable change.

Dr. Binka emphasized that without women’s full participation, efforts to bring about meaningful change would be suboptimal, highlighting the pressing need for women’s inclusion in decision-making processes both locally and globally.
