
Algeria put up a spirited second-half performance on Tuesday to defeat Jordan 2-1 in their second Group J encounter at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.In the pulsating encounter that ensued between the two national teams, Algeria thought they had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 35th minute when Rayan At-Nouri burst into the penalty area and went down under a challenge. However, the referee waved away the appeals and signalled for play to continue.Just a minute later, Jordan capitalised on the moment, with Nizar Al-Rashdan unleashing a low strike from outside the box. His effort found its way into the net to hand Jordan a 1-0 lead against the run of play.Trailing at halftime, Algeria returned from the break with greater urgency and eventually found the equaliser in the 69th minute.Nadir Benbouali rose highest inside the area to meet a perfectly delivered corner from Riyad Mahrez, powering a header into the left side of the net to level the contest at 1-1.Algeria continued to push forward in search of a winner and nearly created another opening in the 80th minute when Anis Hadj Moussa fired an effort from the edge of the box, only for the shot to be blocked behind for a corner.The decisive moment finally came in the 82nd minute when Amine Gouiri reacted quickest inside the area after the ball rebounded kindly off a defender. He calmly slotted home into an empty net to complete Algerias comeback and make it 2-1.The goal was checked by VAR but was cleared to stand, giving Algeria a delightful 2-1 win to stay in contention for qualification to the knockout round.The North African side will now prepare for their final group match against Austria.
