Maame Pinamang wife of the late gospel music legend Yaw Sarpong has publicly appealed to the family of the deceased to allow her to perform the customary widowhood rites following his passing.

In an emotional plea Maame Pinamang stated that despite her status as the lawful wife of the late musician she has allegedly been sidelined in decisions surrounding funeral arrangements and traditional rites including the widowhood rituals customarily accorded to a spouse after death.

Her appeal follows intense public discussion and scrutiny particularly in light of her earlier public utterances prior to the demise of the gospel icon comments which some observers believe may have strained relations between herself and the family of the late Yaw Sarpong.

Yaw Sarpong a towering figure in Ghana’s gospel music industry and founder of the renowned Asomafo Choir passed away recently triggering nationwide tributes from musicians, church leaders, and fans who celebrated his immense contribution to gospel music and Christian ministry.

While cultural and traditional practices surrounding widowhood rites vary among families and ethnic groups, Maame Pinamang insists her request is not confrontational but rooted in respect for tradition and her marital bond with the late musician.

The situation has sparked broader conversations on social media about marital rights, tradition, and the treatment of spouses after the death of public figures, especially within Ghana’s cultural context.
