The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe, made an appearance at the finals of the CAF African Schools Football Championship, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium and he spent a brief but inspiring moment interacting with participants of the Young Reporters Workshop.

During the session, Dr. Motsepe shared heartfelt words of encouragement with the young reporters, commending their skills, passion, and commitment to promoting football on the continent. Representing their peers, Belinda Nketia, Florence, and Emmanuel Andam were selected to ask questions on behalf of the group.

“I’m so proud of y’all. You are so special. We’re so proud of the work you do as young reporters. You represent the very best of Ghana and Africa,” Dr. Motsepe said. “Your expertise, skills, and exposure will contribute to the development and growth of football for girls and boys. Some of you may even build a career from what you are doing now.”

The CAF President also elaborated on the importance of hard work, excellence, and financial empowerment, and encouraged the young reporters to stay committed to their craft. “The smartest, the brightest, and the hardest working usually do well. And we must ensure that you can earn a good living and support yourselves financially.”

Touching on football development, Dr. Motsepe highlighted the critical role of infrastructure and facilities. He noted that partnerships with governments and private entities are essential to building the foundation needed for talent development.
“Investment and resources are needed to unlock these benefits,” he stated.

He noted that, initiatives like the CAF African Schools Football Championship represent a long-term investment in Africa’s future. “The benefits of this competition and the work you have done as young reporters will be realized over time” he said.

The Young Reporters Workshop, held alongside the championship, trained  30 aspiring sport journalists who are U-25 . As part of the programme, four outstanding young reporters will be selected for a prestigious internship with Canal+ University to offer them valuable exposure to professional media environments.
