A youth group calling itself Professional Forum purported to belong to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticised the ruling NPP government for abandoning vital projects at the Hohoe campus of the University of Health and Allied Sciences and allowing them to rot in the bush.
The projects, which were started by the late President John Evans Atta Mills and John Mahama led NDC government, seems not to have attracted the attention of the current government as they failed to continue and complete projects they inherited from the previous administration.
At a press briefing held in Hohoe at the abandoned project site, the spokesperson for the youth group, Andi Agbi stressed that they made several efforts through numerous letters to draw the attention of the NPP government to the plight of the University but that has still not yielded fruitful results.
The Professional Forum members carried placards, some of which read “JM will speedily complete this abandoned project, “Bawumia, Amewu and NPP must go and will go”, “John Mahama will stabilize the economy and cancel the obnoxious licensure exams” among others.
Flanked by members of the youth group, the spokesperson, Andy Agbi who read the statement said the previous Evans Atta Mills and John Mahama-led NDC administration acknowledged the importance of education to mankind, hence the establishment of University of Health and Allied sciences in the region.
Education, the youth group highlighted at the presser, is the bedrock of every successful country and an individual, adding that it is an avenue that provides people with the needed training to equip themselves with skills and knowledge required for professional career.
Mr. Andy Agbi stressed that it’s these tenets that propelled the late Prof. Evans Atta Mills and Mahama to think of establishing the first-ever public University to provide access to tertiary education for the people.
This, the spokesperson believed, would ultimately serve as a powerful tool for people from diverse backgrounds to achieve upward economic and social advancement.
Mr. Agbi noted that in view of this, a permanent site was secured for the construction of structures for the Hohoe campus and work started in earnest as structures including these abandoned projects started until their current state.
Regrettably, the Youth group in their press statement noted that the Akufo-Addo-led government deliberately refused to continue with the project.
The spokesperson for Professional Forum Group, Andy Agbi blamed the MP for Hohoe, John Peter Amewu for being the brain behind such abandonment, noting that there has been no instance where the MP raised issues of education development in Hohoe on the floor of Parliament.
He also said the leadership gap is glaring and concerning, saying the abandonment of such critical projects signifies lack of commitment to the education and socio-economic development of Hohoe.
The erstwhile John Mahama-led government, they said secured funding for possible continuation and completion of the project.
The professional Forum Group in their statement accused Peter John Amewu of not fulfilling even single one of his numerous campaign promises to the people of Hohoe.
