Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has emphasised the importance of depth in Ghanas squad as the team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The four-time African champions will feature at the global tournament, set to be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico, with the final squad expected to be confirmed by head coach Carlos Queiroz on June 1.
Agyemang-Badu, who represented Ghana at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, believes success will depend not only on the starting XI but also on the quality available on the bench.
Its good to have quality everywhere. Its good to have a solid bench,” the U-20 World Cup winner told Graphic Sports. My problem is not about the starting players. I prefer a bench where, when you turn and look, you see powerful players there, and the coach is not panicked and can do whatever he wants,” Agyemang-Badu added.
Meanwhile, preparations are already underway as the Black Stars have opened camp in Cardiff with 22 players assembling ahead of their pre-tournament friendly against Wales on June 2.
Ghana will compete in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia, opening their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field. They will then face England at Gillette Stadium on June 23 before wrapping up their group stage fixtures against Croatia on June 27.
The Black Stars are aiming to progress beyond the group stage at the World Cup for the first time since their memorable run to the quarter-finals in 2010.
