Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup journey came to an end after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32 at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Black Stars produced a spirited performance in an entertaining contest, but an early goal from Jhon Arias proved enough to separate the two sides.
Colombia struck in the 14th minute when Arias tapped home from close range after being picked out by a dangerous cross from Luis Suárez.
Ghana responded positively and enjoyed spells of possession, creating promising moments as they searched for a way back into the game against the South Americans.
Carlos Queiroz’s side threw more men forward in the closing stages, piling pressure on the Colombian defence in pursuit of an equaliser, but were unable to find the breakthrough despite their sustained efforts.
The defeat brings Ghana’s fifth FIFA World Cup campaign to a disappointing conclusion after reaching the knockout stage and raising hopes of another memorable run.
Colombia, meanwhile, advance to the quarter-finals, where they will face Switzerland on July 7 as they continue their quest for World Cup glory.
