Norway produced one of the biggest upsets of the 2026 FIFA World Cup by defeating Brazil 2-1 at MetLife Stadium to secure a place in the quarter-final.
The Round of 16 encounter remained goalless at the break, with both sides creating chances but failing to find the breakthrough in a closely contested first half.
Norway finally broke the deadlock in the 79th minute when Erling Haaland found the back of the net with a towering header to give the Scandinavian side a deserved lead.
The prolific striker struck again in the 90th minute, doubling Norway’s advantage and putting them on the brink of a famous victory over the five-time world champions.
Brazil responded late through Neymar, who calmly converted a penalty in stoppage time, but the goal was only a consolation as Norway held on to seal a memorable win.
The victory sends Norway into the quarter-finals, where they will face the winner of the Round of 16 clash between England and Mexico, while Brazil crash out of the tournament.
