Mexico secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Ecuador in their final 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage match, qualifying for the Round of 16.

Julián Quiñones opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, and Raúl Jiménez doubled the lead just nine minutes later with a clinical finish, putting Mexico firmly in control early in the game.

The match was largely one-sided as Mexico dominated proceedings. Ecuador struggled to create meaningful chances and were unable to mount a comeback.

In a bizarre end to the game, Ecuador defender Piero Hincapié was sent off in the 90+5th minute for covering his mouth while speaking, resulting in a straight red card from the referee.

With the win, Mexico advance to the Round of 16 where they will face the winner of the England versus DR Congo tie. The result marks a solid campaign for the hosts as they progress to the knockout stage.
