Belgium and Egypt played out an entertaining 1-1 draw in their opening Group G fixture of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at Lumen Field.
The Pharaohs made the brighter start and took the lead in the 19th minute through Emam Ashour, who calmly finished to put Egypt ahead and silence the Belgian supporters.
Belgium responded strongly after the break and eventually found their equaliser in the 66th minute. A huge press from Romelu Lukaku forced defender Mohammed Hany into turning the ball into his own net, bringing the Red Devils level.
Both sides pushed for a winner in an end-to-end contest, but neither could find the decisive goal as the points were shared.
The result leaves both teams with a point to begin their World Cup campaign and everything to play for in their remaining group matches.
Belgium will return to action against Iran on June 21, while Egypt face New Zealand on June 22 in their second Group G encounter.
