Norway made a flying start to their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a commanding 4-1 victory over Iraq in a Group I clash at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland stole the show with a brace as the Scandinavians proved too strong for the Lions of Mesopotamia.
The Norwegians also got on the scoresheet through defender Leo Østigård, while Iraq captain Aymen Hussein netted his side’s only goal of the evening.
Norway’s attacking quality was on full display as they controlled large spells of the contest and took their chances to secure all three points.
Despite showing glimpses of promise, Iraq struggled to contain the Norwegian attack and were left chasing the game for most of the encounter.
The result leaves Norway level on three points with France, who defeated Senegal 3-1 in the other Group I fixture earlier in the day.
Iraq will look to bounce back when they face France on June 22 at Lincoln Financial Field, while Norway take on Senegal on June 23 at MetLife Stadium.
