Scotland claimed their first FIFA World Cup victory in 28 years after defeating Haiti 1-0 in a crucial Group C encounter at Gillette Stadium.

The Tartan Army produced a disciplined display and were rewarded in the 28th minute when Aston Villa captain John McGinn found the back of the net with what proved to be the decisive goal of the game.

The Blue and Reds tried to respond after the break and pushed for an equaliser, but Scotland remained resolute defensively to hold on for all three points.

The victory is a historic one for Scotland, marking their first win at the World Cup since 1998. Interestingly, the Scots were drawn alongside Brazil and Morocco in that tournament, the same two nations they find themselves grouped with again in 2026.

The result also sends Scotland to the top of Group C after the other group fixture between Brazil and Morocco ended in a 1-1 draw.

Steve Clarke’s side will now turn their attention to a mouth-watering clash against Morocco on June 19 as they seek to strengthen their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.

Haiti, meanwhile, will be hoping to bounce back when they take on five-time world champions Brazil on June 20 in their second group match.
