Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has expressed confidence in the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting his team will approach every match with the ambition of securing victory.
The experienced tactician made the remarks after arriving with the Ghana contingent on Rhodes Island as preparations intensify for the tournament, which is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Ghana will make their fifth World Cup appearance after successfully qualifying for the expanded 48-team competition. The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama, with their campaign set to begin against Panama before subsequent fixtures against the European heavyweights.
“Our expectation is to go out, play the best football and win every single game. We carry the hopes and dreams of millions of people on our shoulders, and we want to make them proud,” Queiroz said.
The former Iran coach is participating in his fifth World Cup as a manager, having guided the Asian nation at several previous editions. Although appointed Ghana coach only in April, Queiroz believes his squad is prepared for the challenge ahead.
The Black Stars are aiming to reach the knockout stage for the first time since their historic quarter-final run at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, their best-ever performance at the global tournament. Ghana previously featured at the World Cups in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022.
