Switzerland booked their place in the round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Algeria in their Round of 32 clash at BC Place in Vancouver.

The Swiss controlled much of the contest and made their dominance count with two first-half goals that ultimately settled the tie.

Breel Embolo opened the scoring before Dan Ndoye doubled Switzerland’s advantage later in the half, leaving Algeria with a mountain to climb after the break.

Algeria pushed for a response in the second half but struggled to break down a well-organised Swiss defence, as the Red Crosses comfortably protected their two-goal lead until the final whistle.

The victory sends Switzerland into the Round of 16, where they will face either Ghana or Colombia for a place in the quarter-finals.

For Algeria, the defeat brings their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign to an end after reaching the knockout stage but falling short against a clinical Swiss side.
