A four-year-old boy has died while his elder brother is in critical condition after a building collapsed on them during a heavy downpour in the Awutu Senya West District.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Awutu Papaase Number 1, where the siblings were asleep in their “Atakpame” (mud house) when it gave way under the weight of the rains.
The deceased has been identified as Godsway Nutsugah, aged four, while his 35-year-old brother, Seth Nutsugah, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for emergency treatment.
Rescue teams managed to pull both victims from the debris, but the younger boy was pronounced dead on the spot. His elder brother remains in critical condition as medical personnel work to stabilise him.
Confirming the incident in an interview with Adom News, the Awutu Senya West District Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Salifu Adams (also known as Ryback Salifu Adams), urged residents to exercise caution as the rainy season intensifies.
“Residents should be very careful, especially with structures that are not strong enough to withstand heavy rains,” he advised.
