The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare-Obeng (A Plus), has called on the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to provide an update on the investigation into the 2019 murder of journalist Ahmed Suale.

In a public statement, the MP revealed that he had been invited last year to the CID headquarters, where he identified a former high-profile minister allegedly involved in contracting assailants to carry out the crime.

The identification, he stated, was based on credible information provided by a trusted source and disclosed in the presence of the CID Director.

Mr. Asare-Obeng criticized the lack of transparency and apparent delay in the investigation, emphasizing that the public deserves to know the current status of the case.

It appears the matter has been sidelined,” he remarked.

The MP has issued a 48-hour ultimatum for the CID to justify the need for additional time if required or to share concrete progress on the investigation.

He hinted, should the police fail to comply, he has vowed to invoke his authority as an MP to summon the Ghana Police Service to brief Parliament on the case.

Failing that, he plans to take to his social media platforms to reveal details about the case, including the alleged perpetrator’s identity.

Ahmed Suale, a journalist with Tiger Eye PI and collaborator of investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, was shot dead in Accra in January 2019.
