The 2023 Nigerian presidential election was held on 25 February 2023 to elect the president and vice president of Nigeria.
The electoral commission has declared ruling party APC candidate 70-year-old Bola Tinubu winner of Nigeria’s presidential election. Mr Tinubu defeated 17 other candidates who took part in the election.
He scored a total of 8,794,726 votes, the highest of all the candidates, thus meeting the first constitutional requirement to be declared the winner.
He also scored over 25 per cent of the votes cast in 30 states, more than the 24 states constitutionally required. While many Nigerians are celebrating Tinubu’s victory, some are also not pleased with the outcome.
Ghanaian socialite, Afia Schwarzenegger, and political analyst, Kwame A Plus, have joined those who are not pleased with the outcome.
Expressing their views on the election results, they posted on their instagram pages, they featured a photo of the 70-year-old looking dejected and confused while wearing a Jalabia and a hat, suggesting that Nigerians had made the wrong choice.
Afia Schwarzenegger wrote, “Okay ooo…Since this is what you want…Congratulations Nigerians…Africa is proud of you all.”
A Plus appeared to question the decision of Nigerians, writing, “Wei???? ???? Aaawell… Congratulations Sir,” after asking if Tinubu was really the man Nigerians had voted for.
The posts by Afia and A Plus generated a lot of reactions from netizens, with some Nigerians accusing the pair of being ignorant of Nigerian politics and not understanding the election’s significance
