Abdul Salam Yakubu slams GFA Executive Council members over re-election bid

Owner of Division One side New Edubiase, Abdul Salam Yakubu has questioned the conscience of the Executive Council members of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) who intend to seek re-election.

The nomination process for GFA presidential hopefuls, as well as that of Executive Council (Exco) members, was opened on Monday ahead of the Elective Congress set to be held on September 27 at Radach Memorial Hotel in Tamale.

Just like the current president of the association, Kurt Okraku, most of the Exco members are expected to seek another term in office aside from George Amoako who revealed his intentions to end his stint under the GFA in October.

Abdul Salam Yakubu is concerned about how the potential candidates despite being in office, remained silent on the delayed roadmap of the election.

He claims that their lack of interest in the specifics of an election in which they intended to be significantly involved demonstrates their lack of commitment to managing Ghana Football.

“Releasing the roadmap for the elections is a good thing but I’m disappointed in the Executive Council members. Most of them are seeking re-election but never asked for a roadmap. Most of them are not serious because if you know you would be vying for a position but stay mute on the Election Committee’s inability to release modalities, how do you expect to be elected?”

“In less than two months to the elections, nobody called out for the roadmap aside from some of us who have no ambitions in the elections. It would have been organised shabbily.
