Nurudeen Abdulai is training again and the long wait for the Ghanaian defender’s return is over a hurdle.

Dunfermline Athletic manager Neil Lennon has confirmed that Abdulai is back to full training as he makes progress with his injury comeback. Taking to Twitter, Lennon confirmed that the Ghanaian had returned to the club training ground and revealed that he is entering the final stages of his rehabilitation from injury. Following that update, here’s everything you need to know about Nurudeen Abdulai’s recovery.

Abdulai Back on the Grass

Confirmation that Abdulai is training again is the biggest boost to date in his recovery from injury. Separated from his teammates while dealing with a shoulder problem, news that the defender has been able to return to full training suggests he is nearing a return to full fitness. Returning to group training with the rest of the squad is always a big step for a player recovering from injury.

It suggests that he is able to handle a normal training workload and provides a chance to work on match sharpness with teammates. Dunfermline will be relieved to see Abdulai back among his teammates.

Lennon Won’t Rush the Defender

Though injury news updates have been limited in his case, Dunfermline supporters should not expect Abdulai to return instantly. Speaking to BBC Scotland earlier in the season, Lennon confirmed that returning players need to be managed carefully:

“I’m not going to rush anyone back. I’d rather they’re not match fit and played fewer games last year than rushed someone back.”

With Lennon already emphasizing that injured players will not be rushed, Dunfermline supporters will not be expecting instant returns from Abdulai. Instead, Lennon will slowly reintegrate him into the squad and monitor his workload to ensure he does not suffer a setback.

Defender Returns to Boost Dunfermline Options

Lennon has admitted that his injury spell limited his options at the back. Fewer options in defense meant that Dunfermline were forced to turn to other solutions while Nurudeen Abdulai was out. That could change soon, however, with the Ghanaian set to return to bolster Lennon’s defensive ranks.

The Ghana international impressed the Ghana football faithful and caused tremendous buzz at the best Ghanaian betting sites ranked on Bettingtop10.com/ghana during his debut season in the Scottish Championship. Signed from Medeama SC in 2025, Abdulai became a regular fixture in the Dunfermline defense and even scored in his debut campaign with the Pars.

His physicality made him a welcome addition to Lennon’s squad. Adding him back into the fold will offer more defensive options as Dunfermline look to remain competitive in the Championship.

From Medeama to Scotland

Abdulai previously played football in Ghana for Medeama SC. He moved from Medeama to Scotland through Dunfermline’s club academy in 2025. That move proved to be a turning point in his career, having stepped up into European football leagues to showcase his talent with Pars.

Dunfermline already had a wealth of young talent in their squad when Abdulai joined, though he still managed to establish himself as a regular under Lennon. He’ll be looking to continue that form upon his return from injury.

Just in Time for Dunfermline

The Scottish Championship can be a ruthless league – teams need squad depth if they are to challenge. Depth is especially important in defense, though Dunfermline are about to find their ranks boosted by the return of Nurudeen Abdulai from injury.

Abdulai’s return offers Lennon another option at the back. He can utilize the Ghana international as cover for other defenders or even use him as part of a defensive rotation. It also allows him to strengthen competition for places within the squad. Either way, Lennon will be more than welcoming to have Abdulai back at his disposal.

Dunfermline supporters have already seen what Nurudeen Abdulai can offer. Even before his injury, Dunfermline had called upon Abdulai during a run of good form which saw them keep three clean sheets in a row.
