At the handing over of an ultra-modern ICT laboratory to the school by its 1986-year group in Accra, the headmaster of the Accra Academy, Mr Emmaneul Fiemawhle said the gesture has come at the right time to help facilitate effective teaching ICT.

He said with the current student population of over four thousand, it is prudent for the old students to extend a hand of help to the institution because the government’s assistance is not adequate to match up with the increasing student population.

Mr Fiemawhle took a swipe at student indiscipline. He noted that there is a need to find innovative ways to end the pockets of incidents in some senior high schools because of indiscipline, which gives cause for concern.

He said it is worrying that students who are fortunate to enjoy free education would rather choose to sacrifice their future on the altar of violence and destruction to public property.

The ICT laboratory was built by the 1986-year group of Accra Academy, following a pledge made during the speech and prize-giving day in 2017. According to the President of the 1986-year group, Dr. Solomon Fixon-Owoo, the construction and furnishing of the 50-seater lab did not happen without challenges.

But they were guided by the mission statement of the school which is to develop a model school of excellence; prepare students for life by instilling in them the virtues of Truth, selfless service, and pursuit of excellence.

A former High Commissioner to Australia, H. E. Mr. Edwin Nii Adjei (Bleoobi 72), who was the Guest of Honour, said ICT has become the driver of development in many sectors and it is imperative for the students to be equipped with skills to harness their potentials for the tasks ahead.
