On 31st December 2023 in Accra in the Greater Region, as night came on the last day of the year, something special was happening in churches. People were getting ready for the watch night service, a tradition to welcome the New Year.
At Lapaz, The City Of The Living God Ministry was adorned with bright lights, creating an atmosphere of peace. Gladys Mensah a choir member arrived early, her heart filled with gratitude.
She led the choir in singing, which filled the congregation with joy and excitement. And the congregation came to give their testimonies of thanksgiving and hoping for a good year ahead.
As the congregation assembled, The Head pastor, Reverend Charles Soku Nwenji took the pulpit, his voice resonating through the auditorium. “Tonight, we reflect on the journey of 2023, the challenges we faced, and the victories we celebrated and give thanks for how far God has brought us. But as we approach 2024, it will be our year of uncommon testimonies and favors.
The congregation was filled with all-white dresses which signifies victory.
The service had songs that touched the hearts of members prayers, and moments to think about the past year. The air was filled with Thanksgiving for what happened in the year and what is expected to come the next year.
When the clock was about to show midnight, everyone got very quiet. Then, they started counting down together. The excitement grew as they got closer to the New Year.
When midnight finally came the church filled with happy sounds, people hugging, dancing saying “Happy New Year!” and feeling thankful.
