Accra Lions will be back to the Division One League in case King Faisal win their boardroom points appeal case against already relegated Tamale City.
The Ghana Football Association’s Appeal Committee is set to adjudicate the case filed by King Faisal Football Club against the decision of the GFA Disciplinary Committee in the protest filed against Tamale City Football Club for fielding an unqualified player in the Match Day 30 of the betPawa Premier League played at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale on 6th May, 2023 contrary to Article 28(1)(d), Article 28(2)(a) and Article 33(1)(e) of the Ghana Premier League Regulations 2019.
The Disciplinary Committee of the GFA dismissed the case filed by the Kumasi-based club but the Green and White club have not given up on the matter and the independent committee of the Ghana FA is set to preside over the matter on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at the secretariat of the GFA.
In an event King Faisal are declared winners from the appeal case, Tamale City, already relegated, will be deducted 6 points with 3 points given to King Faisal.
If King Faisal receive the points, their points accumulation will improve to 45 placing them on equal points with Great Olympics and Accra Lions.
However, it is important to note that the Ghana Premier League is rule on tiebreaking is Head-to-Head and not goal aggregate.
However, the rule is not that simple and straightforward – the explanation to this rule is this: The rule stipulates that where 2 or more clubs are in a tiebreaking situation a separate table must be constructed for them by the league organiser (GFA).
In such a scenario, King Faisal on 45 points, Accra Lions 45 points and Great Olympics on 45 points must be separated and this is the criteria.
Below is the outcome of games between the three clubs.
- King Faisal vs Accra Lions – Beat Accra Lions 2-1 on Matchday 8 and beat Accra Lions once again 1-0 on Matchday 25.
- King Faisal vs Great Olympics – Lost 1-0 to Olympics on Matchday 3 and beat Olympics 2-0 on Matchday 20.
- Accra Lions vs Great Olympics – Beat Great Olympics 3-0 on Matchday 15 and lost 1-0 to Great Olympics on Matchday 32.
