The Minority in Parliament led by the leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has called for a swift action from the Ghana Police service to investigate the alleged disappearance of seven biometric machines belonging to the Electoral Commission.
The minority is worried over the situation, stating that the disappearance of the biometric machine could pose a major threat to the authenticity of the upcoming 7th December elections, thus, warranting the call on the police service to investigate the cause of the disappearance.
According to the Minority, the missing biometric devices were meant for the registration and verification of voters by the Electoral Commission ahead of its limited voter registration exercise.
Addressing the press in Parliament on Tuesday, March 19, the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, said the CID and the Police Service must expedite action into ascertaining the whereabouts of the seven missing biometric devices.
Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson said, “The Electoral Commission confirms that seven of the biometric devices are indeed missing. I urge the CID and the Ghana Police Service to immediately issue a statement giving us the details of their investigation so far.”
“I am concerned and worried because those devices in the hands of an unknown person can compromise the future elections that Ghana will have.
“Who knows whether this is in the hands of a political party? And who knows what that political party is doing with it? I am disturbed.”
The Ajumako-Esian-Enyan legislator fears a potential repercussions for the upcoming December polls if the machines are not found immediately.
The missing biometric devices are intended for voter registration and verification by the electoral commission ahead of the limited voter registration exercise. This has resulted in the apprehension being expressed by the minority questioning the whereabouts of the machines and which unknown individuals are in possession of the machines.
