Russell Brand has said he had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old when he was 30, but insisted it was consensual and within the law in the United Kingdom.
Speaking in an interview with Megyn Kelly, Brand maintained that he has “never sexually assaulted anyone,” despite ongoing legal challenges.
The comedian acknowledged that during earlier stages of his career, he behaved poorly towards women, citing the influence of fame, wealth and status. He said he “was not kind” and failed to consider the emotional impact of his actions, but stressed that his conduct did not cross legal boundaries.
Prosecutors in the UK have taken a different position, charging Brand with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault relating to alleged incidents over several years. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges, and the case remains ongoing.
In recent weeks, Brand has appeared on a number of high-profile platforms ahead of the release of his book, How to Become a Christian in 7 Days. These include an interview with Tucker Carlson, where the two were seen praying together, as he continues to publicly address both his past behaviour and the allegations against him.
