Aduana FC walked off the pitch during their Nsenkyire Cup encounter against Togolese side Etoile Filante at the Nsenkyire Arena on Saturday. The Fire Club abandoned the match at half-time in protest against refereeing decisions, bringing the pre-season fixture to an abrupt and controversial end.
Aduana FC head coach Samuel Boadu, visibly dissatisfied with the officiating, led his players from the pitch at the interval. Despite efforts by club officials and organisers to persuade the team to return for the second half, the players and technical team reportedly remained resolute and did not resume the match.
The walk-off is understood to be contrary to the regulations governing the Nsenkyire Cup, with Aduana FC now expected to forfeit their financial entitlement from the tournament. The club could also face further consequences should the organisers determine that their actions amounted to a breach of the competitions rules.
The incident has cast a shadow over Aduana FCs participation in the pre-season competition, which was designed to provide participating clubs with valuable preparation ahead of the new football season.
Aduana FC ultimately finished bottom of the tournament standings, while Etoile Filante went on to claim the Nsenkyire Cup title following the competitions conclusion at Sambreboi on Sunday.
The walk-off adds an unwanted chapter to the Fire Clubs pre-season campaign, with attention now expected to turn to the organisers response and any measures that may be taken over the clubs conduct.
