Some residents of the Ahanta West Municipality in the Western Region have petitioned government to urgently operationalise the Agenda 111 hospital at Bokoro.
According to them, delays are worsening pressure on existing health facilities. They said continued closure of the facility constructed under the previous administration and commissioned ahead of the 2025 political transition has left communities struggling to access quality healthcare.
They argue that the situation is stretching the capacity of the few functional facilities in the municipality.
The call follows a brief picketing exercise by residents and members of Advocacy for Citizens’ Ghana (ACG), a non-partisan pressure group, at the hospital premises.
Protesters, clad in red and black attire, displayed placards reading: “Ahanta West Deserves Better Hospital”, “Stop the Politics, Save Lives” and “Healthcare Delayed Is Dangerous”.
Convener of ACG, Stephen Malvin Cobbinah, said conflicting accounts about the status of the project have deepened public concern.

He noted that while the hospital was commissioned, the current administration maintains that it was not fully completed creating uncertainty among residents.
“This situation has raised serious concerns and heightened frustration among residents who continue to struggle with access to quality healthcare,” he said.
Mr. Cobbinah called on the Ministry of Health to provide clarity on the level of completion of the facility at the time of commissioning.
He further urged government to outline outstanding works required to make the hospital functional and present a clear, time-bound road-map for its internationalisation.
He maintained that access to healthcare remains a fundamental right, cautioning that delays in bringing the facility into use pose risks to lives.
“We expect transparency, clarity and swift action in the interest of the people,” he added, stressing the group’s commitment to peaceful civic engagement.
Meanwhile, the Communication Directorate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ahanta West Constituency has also expressed concern over recent public commentary surrounding the project.

The directorate referenced remarks attributed to the Chief of Lower Dixcove, Nana Akwasi Agyemang IX, who reportedly stated that equipping the Bokoro hospital could cost more than constructing the facility.
The party questioned the basis of the claim and called for clarification on how that conclusion was reached in a statement issued.
