Former Ghana winger Albert Adomah has reflected on how he played a key role in two promotion-winning campaigns only to be left out of the Premier League campaigns that followed.
Adomah was instrumental in helping Middlesbroughsecure promotion to the top flight in 2016 under manager Aitor Karanka. Three years later he playedcrucial role as Aston Villa clinched a dramatic play-off victory at Wembley to return to the Premier League.
Despite his significant contributions in both campaigns, the outcome remained the same. Adomah was not part of the Premier League squads that followed those promotions.
Reflecting on his departure from Aston Villa, the experienced winger did not shy away from the truth behind the decision.
“My second promotion was a different one because I was out of contract. They didn’t keep me on. You can look at it in a different way; maybe they thought I wasn’t good enough for the Premier League. That’s football, and I had to move on. Doing well for a team doesn’t mean you’ll be there forever, he told Flashscore.
Rather than dwell on disappointment, Adomah has taken a pragmatic view of the game, acknowledging the realities that come with professional football.
“Everyone wants to play at the highest level, but sometimes you have to look at your situation. I chose to go elsewhere because I knew it would benefit myself and my family. I could play in the Premier League but I will have nothing to show for at the end of it. Football is business, he stessed.
At 38, Albert Adomah is actively playing in the English lower-tier with Walsall and wants to continue playing for many years.
