Ghana concluded the 2026 FIFA World Cup as the fifth-best performing African nation after finishing 24th overall following an encouraging campaign in the expanded tournament.

The Black Stars reached the knockout stage for the first time since the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa before their journey ended with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32.

Carlos Queiroz’s side opened their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Panama before earning a crucial draw against England in the group stage. However, defeats to Croatia and Colombia meant Ghana finished the tournament with one win, one draw and two losses from four matches.

Despite the Round of 32 exit, the campaign marked a significant improvement for the Black Stars, who had failed to progress beyond the group stage in their previous World Cup appearances.

Ghana’s performances also placed them 24th overall in the final tournament rankings, making them the fifth-best African team at the competition and highlighting the team’s progress under Queiroz since his appointment in March 2026.

The Black Stars will now turn their attention to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as preparations continue for the next major international assignment.
