(Photo by Harry Langer/DeFodi Images/DeFodi via Getty Images)Black Stars defender Alexander Djiku has opened up about his frustration over Ghana’s recent struggles at major tournaments, urging the team to move beyond past failures and focus on rebuilding for future success.Ghana remains one of Africa’s most decorated football nations, with four Africa Cup of Nations titles and a proud history of competing at the highest level.However, recent performances have fallen short of those historic standards, with early exits from major competitions leaving supporters frustrated.Djiku, who has been a key figure in Ghana’s defence in recent years, admitted that watching the national team struggle to advance beyond the group stages of recent AFCON tournaments has been difficult, especially given the country’s rich football heritage.”You know, I feel very good because also, you know, the Black Stars have four stars; we won a lot of African Cups, so it’s a strong country. When I saw Black Stars in the past, they all the time go final, semi-final. So I was a little bit angry that we could not get past the group stage,” Djiku said.Despite his disappointment, Djiku believes the team cannot afford to dwell on past failures. The experienced centre-back insists the priority must now be preparing for the challenges ahead and creating a new identity for the national team.”I was there in the last two African Cups, but now it’s far. We have to move forward and see what we can do in the next World Cup,” he added.For Djiku, restoring Ghana’s reputation will require unity, determination and a renewed hunger from both experienced players and emerging talents.
