Antoine Semenyo was named Man of the Match after delivering a standout performance to help Ghana secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Panama in their 2026 FIFA World Cup Group L opener at BMO Field in Toronto.
The Man City forward was a constant threat throughout the match, combining pace, creativity, and tireless work rate that troubled the Panamanian defence from start to finish.
While many believe Caleb Yirenkyi, who scored the decisive late goal deserved the accolade, the FIFA technical study team chose Antoine Semenyo for the award on the back of his overall display to help the Black Stars overcome a sluggish first half and grind out the vital three points.
The Man of the Match award adds to Semenyo’s growing reputation on the big stage and provides a huge boost for the Black Stars as they prepare for tougher challenges ahead.
Ghana will now face England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium, while Panama take on Croatia on the same day at BMO Field.
