Ghana football legend Asamoah Gyan has praised goalkeeper Benjamin Asare for his impressive displays at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing him as a key figure in the Black Stars’ strong start to the tournament.

Asare was one of Ghana’s standout performers in the goalless draw against England in Foxborough, Massachusetts, producing several crucial saves to preserve a valuable point. His most notable intervention came late in the match when he brilliantly denied England captain Harry Kane, while Ghana also benefited moments later when Nico O’Reilly’s header crashed against the crossbar.

Speaking after the game, Gyan commended the Hearts of Oak shot-stopper’s composure and positioning.

“Benjamin Asare is very composed. Wherever he is, you can see the ball comes there,” Gyan said.

The former Ghana captain also credited Asare for keeping the Black Stars competitive during the World Cup qualifiers.

Having stepped in for the injured Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Asare has helped Ghana remain unbeaten and yet to concede a goal after two Group L matches.
