We the youth of Ashanti are disturbed by the current chaos and rancor engulfing the New Patriotic Party in the region. This is as a result of the struggle for Vice Presidential Candidate position in the party.
Competing for such a high position will definitely come with strong contests among the possible candidates, but the level at which it has become acrimonious is what we find very disturbing.
This is all because a particular group considers themselves entitled to this position, and this is what we are speaking against a group from the region.
First and foremost, no particular person nor group is ordained to occupy the presidency in Ashanti. All Ashantis have equal access and claim to the seat.
It is therefore becoming problematic the attempt by some people to hijack this position for the Apagyafie.
Former President John Kufuor, being the only and last person to occupy the presidency as an elected Head of State from the region is from the same Apagyafie.
As a matter of fact, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, is his grandnephew. If Ashanti is fortunate to present a candidate for the presidency, why should it go to the Apagyafie once again?
Are there no competent candidates in the region besides those from the Apagyafie household?
NAPO succeeded his own grand uncle, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor, as the MP for Manhyia at the time. He is now making way for his younger brother from the same Apagyafie household to succeed him as MP for Manhyia South.
We the Ashanti Youth for Justice are therefore demanding for fairness by calling on the Flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to consider other competent candidates from the region before a particular small section of the region is allowed to hijack the opportunities that come to the region.
Many people are not happy with this but have decided to keep silent whilst they watch the party.
The party risks creating apathy in the region if another person from the Apagyafie household is named as the Vice Presidential candidate for the NPP.
We pray the party will listen to, and address our concerns. Thank you
Signed
