Ghanaian midfielder Augustine Boakye has expressed deep joy after receiving his first-ever call-up to the national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the moment as the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition.

The Saint-Étienne playmaker, who developed at WAFA, shared an emotional message after being included in the squad, reflecting on the journey that has taken him from academy football to the world stage.

“Privileged to receive my first call-up to serve my country at the FIFAWorldCup. A moment I’ve worked for my entire life. Thanks to my family, coaches, teammates, and everyone who has supported my journey. Now it’s time to give everything for the nation,” Boakye wrote.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed an impressive season in France, registering five goals and nine assists in 31 appearances for Saint-Étienne.

Despite his strong individual form, he narrowly missed out on helping the club secure promotion to Ligue 1 after a playoff defeat to Nice.

Boakye’s inclusion in the national setup marks a significant milestone in his career, with the midfielder now set to compete for a place in Ghana’s squad as preparations continue for the global tournament.
