Benjamin Asare and Kofi Adams
Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, following his impressive showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper met with the sector minister after representing Ghana at the global tournament, where Spain emerged as champions. Asare was part of Ghanas squad for the competition and played a key role during the Black Stars campaign.
The former Great Olympics shot-stopper made his World Cup debut in Ghanas opening Group L fixture against Panama after coming on in the first half following an injury to first-choice goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi.
He went on to start against England, producing a standout performance that earned widespread praise.
Asares display against the Three Lions, where he made several crucial saves to help Ghana secure a valuable point in a goalless draw, was one of the highlights of the teams tournament. He also featured in Ghanas final group match against Croatia.
Although the Black Stars were eliminated in the Round of 32 after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia, Asare emerged as one of the players who received significant commendation for his performances on footballs biggest stage.
The experienced goalkeeper visited Kofi Adams to express his appreciation and show support for the ministers efforts in Ghanas football development, following the teams participation at the World Cup.
With the tournament now concluded, Asare and his Black Stars teammates will shift their focus to Ghanas next major assignment the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ghana has been placed in Group C alongside Cte dIvoire, Somalia and The Gambia, with the qualification campaign scheduled to begin in September.
The Hearts of Oak captain will be hoping to maintain his impressive form as Ghana begins preparations for another attempt to reclaim its status as one of Africas leading football nations.
