Bernard Mornah has been elected as the flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC) for the 2024 elections, following a successful Delegates Conference held on Saturday.
Mornah secured an overwhelming majority of the regional votes, signaling strong support from the party’s delegates. His closest contender, David Apesera, garnered 216 votes, while Mornah amassed 1,354 votes.
In a pre-election interview, Mornah expressed confidence in his ability to defeat Apesera, citing his political track record and contributions to the PNC as key factors.
He also shared his vision for the country, stating that he aims to be a revolutionary president who will prioritize the promotion of local languages as national languages.
“I am the people’s president, and I am thrilled by the outcome so far,” Mornah emphasized.
The PNC Congress, which was scheduled to begin at 9 am, faced a delay due to an attempted injunction from David Apesera’s camp. However, the party resolved the issue, allowing the Congress to proceed as planned.
In addition to the flagbearer election, other positions were contested, including the national chairmanship. Samson Asaki Awingobit triumphed over the acting chair, Hajia Hajara Ali, in the race for the chairmanship.
After his victory, Mornah delivered a speech calling for unity within the party and encouraging all members to join forces for a strong campaign effort leading up to the 2024 elections.
