Beyoncé’s BeyGood Foundation has awarded a £8,000 grant to Chuku’s, a Nigerian-owned restaurant in Tottenham, London.
The grant is part of the Black Parade Small Business Impact Luncheon, which was created by Beyoncé to “celebrate people, communities, and small businesses impacted by economic inequities worldwide.”
Chuku’s is a popular restaurant that serves traditional Nigerian cuisine.
The restaurant was founded by Emeka Frederick and his wife, Ngozi, in 2019. Chuku’s has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and the rising cost of living.
The grant from Beyoncé’s foundation will help the restaurant stay afloat and continue to celebrate Nigerian culture.
“This grant couldn’t be more welcome,” said Frederick. “Chuku’s, like other restaurants that don’t have a financial reserve, has been battered by lockdowns and the cost of living crisis. Every day, we’re fighting to stay open to make it to our fourth birthday. This money will make that fight a little easier and allow us to continue celebrating Nigerian culture on Tottenham’s High Road for the time being.”
The Black Parade Small Business Impact Luncheon was held at the Four Seasons in Tower Hill on Tuesday. The event was attended by over 100 entrepreneurs, who had the chance to win a total of £806,000 in prizes. In addition to Chuku’s, nine other businesses were awarded grants.
“We are proud to support these businesses and their owners,” said Beyoncé.
“They are an inspiration to us all, and we are committed to helping them succeed.”
The Black Parade Small Business Impact Luncheon is part of Beyoncé’s ongoing commitment to social justice and economic empowerment.
In recent years, Beyoncé has donated millions of dollars to various charities and organizations that support Black communities. She has also used her platform to speak out against racism and injustice.
The grant to Chuku’s is a significant contribution to the restaurant and its community. It is also a testament to Beyoncé’s commitment to supporting Black-owned businesses and communities.
