Ghana U-23 coach Ibrahim Tanko is focusing on players available to him after Black Stars duo Kamaldeen Sulemana and Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer withdrew from his squad ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Morocco.

The two players won’t join Black Meteors, however, Ernest Nuamah who made his Black Stars debut recently against Madagascar is set to be available for the U-23 team.

Tanko named a 29-man squad and is expected to name his final squad before Ghana’s first game on Sunday against Congo

“For now I understand Ernest Nuamah is going to join us. The rest will not be able to join so we only have to concentrate on those who are here.

“We already know Ernest and we’ve played with him during the qualifiers so know he is coming to add some quality to the team.

“The others were not with us during the qualifiers but we felt they had qualities that could help the team since they are not here we will concentrate on those we played the qualifiers with. We are 100 percent sure that the quality is enough. Let’s hope that we will have all players fit for the tournament.

Black Meteors have set sights on qualification to the Olympic Games in Paris next year. They have to be among the best three in Morocco to achieve their primary objective.

Ghana will kick start their campaign with a clash against Congo on Sunday before playing Morocco and Guinea in the group stage.

Ghana narrowly missed out in 2019 when they lost on penalties to South Africa in the third-place playoff match in the AFCON.
