Ghana’s U-23 men’s national team, the Black Meteors, are set to depart from Accra on Monday, June 12, for Cairo, Egypt to continue preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The delegation, consisting of players, technical staff, and officials, will leave Accra in the afternoon.
The Black Meteors will spend two weeks in Cairo as part of their preparations for the tournament, which will be held in Morocco from June 24 to July 8, 2023.
During their stay in Cairo, coach Ibrahim Tanko’s side will participate in several friendly matches, including a game against Egypt’s national team, the Pharaohs.
Two players, Kamaldeen Sulemana and Ransford-Yeboah Koniigsdoffer, who are part of the Black Stars squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar, will join the Black Meteors camp in Cairo after June 18.
Ghana face Morocco, Guinea and Congo in the group stage, with the team opening their account against Congo on June 25, followed by matches against Morocco and Guinea on June 27 and June 30, respectively.
The finalists and the winner of the third-place playoff in this tournament will secure qualification to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
