In a historic win, Ghanaian musician Black Sherif has been crowned the Artiste of the Year at the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

The 21-year-old rapper and singer made history as the youngest nominee to win the coveted award, beating out seven of Ghana’s biggest names in music, including Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Camidoh, KiDi, Piesie Esther, Joe Mettle, and King Promise.

Black Sherif dominates VGMA24 with wins in 3 major categories; Best Music Video Award, Most Popular Song of the Year and Best Hiplife Song of the Year with Kwaku The Traveller.

The awards ceremony, held at the prestigious Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Center on May 6, 2023, was a star-studded event attended by some of the biggest names in Ghana’s music industry.

Black Sherif’s victory was met with wild cheers and applause from the audience, who were thrilled to see a young talent take the top prize.

Black Sherif’s win was particularly impressive, as he had been nominated in eight categories, including Best Hiphop Song, Best Afropop Song, Best Music Video, and Best Reggae/Dancehall Song.

His music, which is a unique blend of hip-hop, highlife, and drill, has struck a chord with audiences in Ghana and beyond, and his lyrics often touch on themes of social inequality, poverty, and street life.

This latest accolade is yet another feather in the cap for Black Sherif, who has already won several awards for his music, including the “Best New Artiste of the Year” at the 2021 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

With his star on the rise, there’s no doubt that Black Sherif has a bright future ahead of him, and his win at the 2023 VGMA’s cements his position as one of Ghana’s most exciting young talents.
