
Ghana will leave their training base in Rhode Island on Thursday for Philadelphia as preparations intensify for Saturday’s decisive FIFA World Cup Group L clash against Croatia.The Black Stars held a recovery session at Bryant University on Wednesday, less than 24 hours after producing an impressive defensive display to earn a goalless draw against England at Gillette Stadium.Carlos Queiroz’s side head into the final round of group matches level on four points with England, with both teams unbeaten after recording one win and one draw from their opening two fixtures.Ghana know victory over Croatia at Lincoln Financial Field will guarantee qualification for the Round of 32, while a draw could also be enough to progress depending on the final standings and the tournament’s best third-placed rankings.The squad will train once in Philadelphia on Friday before taking on Croatia in Saturday’s 5 p.m. encounter.Confidence within the camp remains high following Tuesday’s result, which saw Ghana frustrate one of the tournament favourites through a disciplined defensive performance.Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, defender Jerome Opoku and midfielder Kwasi Sibo were among the standout performers as the Black Stars held England to a draw.After the match, Queiroz praised his players’ commitment and reminded them that qualification has not yet been secured.”We have not won anything yet,” the Ghana coach said. “Points in this World Cup are terribly expensive.”Midfielder Kwasi Sibo has also set the target for the final group game, insisting the Black Stars are determined to beat Croatia and finish top of Group L heading into the knockout stage.
