The founder of Blacvolta has issued a personal apology after old posts from his X account resurfaced online, prompting widespread criticism and debate on social media.
The statement comes as the platform continues to face scrutiny over its online history and past content associated with its accounts.
In the statement, Joseph Adjei, founder of Ghanaian media and lifestyle platform Blacvolta, said the posts dated back to a period when the account was originally personal before being transitioned and migrated into the platform’s official X account. He noted that while some screenshots circulating online were “not authentic,” he acknowledged that other posts from that period were “very offensive, insensitive, and wrong.”

He said the language used in some of the posts, which included “casual jokes normalising and trivialising serious sexual violence,” was “extreme, unacceptable,” adding that he understood the “disappointment, hurt, and anger” it had caused, particularly among women. He offered a sincere apology for the impact of the content.
Joseph Adjei added that although he has “grown personally and professionally” over the years, he recognised that growth does not erase harm, stressing the importance of accountability. He said he would engage with organisations in Ghana working on gender-based violence and women’s empowerment, and take steps to promote safer digital spaces, adding that he is “listening, learning, and committed to showing growth through consistent actions over time.”
