Every now and then, intimate videos involving students, teachers, celebrities and other public figures pop up online, and before long, they are everywhere. Social media users share them, discuss them, react to them and, in some cases, turn the situation into a trending topic.
The repeated emergence of such videos has also sparked concerns about the kind of content young people are being exposed to, with former hiplife musician turned evangelist Yaw Siki now calling for pornography to be banned in Ghana.
Yaw Siki took to Twitter on Saturday, August 15, to express his concern about what he believes has become a worrying trend.
“I have noticed that every year, a sexual content leaks in Ghana, triggering the youth to start watching pornography. It must end!” he wrote.
In another post, he said he hopes to see pornography prohibited in the country.
“I pray to see pornography banned in Ghana,” he added.
His comments come at a time when social media has been buzzing over a leaked intimate video involving Kumawood actor Stephen Yaw Mawunyo, popularly known as Oteele. The video has generated significant discussion online, with portions of the content circulating across social media platforms and drawing reactions from the public.
Oteele’s incident is, however, not the first time leaked intimate content involving a Ghanaian public figure has dominated conversations online. Before the latest development, a leaked sexual video involving radio presenter Rexford Adu Ntim, also known as DJ KA, attracted widespread attention on social media. There was also a separate controversy involving an SHS teacher and a student at Bole SHS after an intimate video involving the two circulated online.

For many Ghanaians, the pattern has become increasingly familiar, a private video leaks, social media users quickly get hold of it, and within hours, it becomes the subject of intense online discussion. It is this recurring trend that appears to have prompted Yaw Siki to speak out.
The ‘Wope dodo’ hitmaker has in recent years used his social media platforms to share his Christian views and comment on issues he believes are affecting society. His latest posts reflect his concern about the exposure of young people to sexually explicit content and the ease with which such material can be accessed and circulated online.
In many cases, the individuals involved may have recorded the content privately, only for it to end up online without their permission. Once such material is uploaded or circulated, however, it can spread rapidly across multiple platforms and become extremely difficult to contain.
Yaw Siki’s call for a ban on pornography has therefore added a new dimension to the ongoing conversation, coming at a time when another leaked intimate video has once again taken over social media discussions in Ghana. For him, the recurring nature of the incidents is something that needs to stop.
