Blakk Rasta, renowned reggae musician and radio presenter, has revealed that he received death threats following his performance at the Nkrumahfest concert in Nkroful, located in Ghana’s Western Region. The event, which took place on September 21, paid tribute to Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, celebrating his significant role in the nation’s development.

During his set, Blakk Rasta performed a song titled “Thief President,” which harshly criticized African leaders for what he described as poor governance and corruption. Speaking on 3FM’s Drive with Giovani Caleb on September 25, Blakk Rasta shared that his performance, though unplanned, quickly became controversial.

“I wasn’t even supposed to perform the song there,” he explained. “I had planned to give a speech, but the audience kept asking for me to perform something, so I sang it. By the evening, it was all over the place. It was a message to African leaders – if you’re corrupt, it’s time to change.”

The song’s message clearly hit a nerve, as Blakk Rasta revealed that he started receiving anonymous threats shortly afterward. “People started calling me from untraceable numbers, making threats. The organizers had to increase security at my hotel,” he said.

He emphasized that the song wasn’t aimed at any specific leader but was a general critique of corrupt African Presidents.. I’m not saying who is corrupt and who isn’t. But if the shoe fits, wear it,” he remarked.

The Nkrumahfest concert was organized to honor the enduring legacy of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
