The fixture, scheduled for the Emirates Stadium, marks Coventry’s return to the English top flight for the first time in 25 years following a successful Championship-winning campaign under manager Frank Lampard.

Thomas-Asante played a pivotal role in the Sky Blues’ promotion, scoring 13 goals and providing four assists as Coventry amassed 95 points to secure the Championship title. The striker is expected to spearhead the club’s attack as they begin life back in the Premier League against Mikel Arteta’s title holders.

The 27-year-old’s rise to the top level of English football has been one of persistence and determination. Seven years ago, he was playing non-league football with Oxford City in the National League South before progressing through spells with Sutton United, Ebbsfleet United and Salford City.

Reflecting on Coventry’s promotion earlier this year, Thomas-Asante described the achievement as the culmination of years of hard work.

“Moments like this, they’re not out of nowhere. They’re built up over years and decades. It’s a journey,” he said.

His partnership with Ephron Mason-Clark proved crucial to Coventry’s success last season, with the pair combining for 36 goals.

The opening-night clash presents a stern challenge for Coventry, but for Thomas-Asante, it is another milestone in a remarkable journey from non-league football to the Premier League and the FIFA World Cup stage.
