
Cameroon will receive a $2 million prize for winning the 2026 CAF Womens Africa Cup of Nations, doubling the financial reward from the previous edition.The Indomitable Lionesses secured the lucrative prize after defeating Malawi 3-0 in the final at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat on Sunday.The $2 million payout represents a 100 percent increase from the $1 million awarded to the previous champions, underlining the growth in the financial value of the women’s competition.Cameroon produced a dominant first-half performance to claim their first WAFCON title.Marie Ngah opened the scoring in the 20th minute before Naomi Ndjoah Eto doubled the advantage ten minutes later. Ngah then completed her brace in first-half stoppage time to give Cameroon a commanding 3-0 lead.The victory also ended Cameroon’s long wait for continental success after three previous final defeats against Nigeria in 2004, 2014 and 2016.Cameroon became only the fourth nation to win the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, joining Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and South Africa.Their historic campaign included a 1-0 quarter-final victory over defending champions Nigeria and a penalty shootout win over hosts Morocco in the semi-finals.The financial reward adds to the significance of a title that finally ends Cameroon’s long wait for African women’s football glory.
